Which printers work?
PrintHop uses Android’s built-in printing, so it works with printers that Android can print to. That includes most recent Wi-Fi printers that support standard wireless printing (IPP and Mopria), from makers such as HP, Canon, Epson and Brother. Your phone and printer must be on the same Wi-Fi network, or connected with Wi-Fi Direct.
Older printers may need the maker’s print plugin or the Mopria Print Service from Google Play. Printers that only connect by USB or Bluetooth are not supported. No app can promise every printer, so the in-app Printer help screen lists what to try if yours is not found.
Frequently asked questions
Is PrintHop really free?
Yes. There is no subscription and no paywall. The app is supported by ads.
How do I print from my phone to my printer?
Open PrintHop, choose a PDF, photo, web page or text, check the preview and tap Print. On the Android print screen pick your printer and tap the print button.
My printer is not listed. What can I do?
Turn the printer on and connect it to the same Wi-Fi network as your phone. Open Android print settings and make sure the Default Print Service is on. Older printers may need the maker’s print plugin or Mopria Print Service from Google Play. The Printer help screen in the app has shortcuts for each step.
Can I print a PDF from my Android phone?
Yes. Tap PDF file, choose the document, check the preview and print. You can also share a PDF to PrintHop from email or a chat app.
How do I print from my Samsung phone or other Android phone?
The steps are the same on any Android phone: connect the phone and printer to the same Wi-Fi network, open PrintHop, choose what to print and tap Print. See the Samsung guide.
Can I print photos, and several photos on one page?
Yes. Select one or many photos, choose Fit or Fill, a margin and a paper size, and print 1, 2 or 4 photos per page.
Does it print Arabic and other languages correctly?
Yes. Text is drawn with your phone’s own fonts and text engine, so Arabic letters join correctly, right-to-left lines align to the right, and Hindi and Cyrillic print properly.
Do my files get uploaded?
No. PDFs, photos and text are processed on your phone and sent to your printer through Android. PrintHop has no accounts and no servers for your files. Read the privacy policy.
Does PrintHop work without internet?
Printing to a Wi-Fi printer on your local network does not need internet access. Ads and web page printing need a connection.
Is there an iPhone version?
Not yet. PrintHop is built for Android first.
