Wireless printing from Android: HP, Epson, Canon and Brother printers
Updated October 30, 2026
Android can print wirelessly to most recent Wi-Fi printers without installing anything from the printer maker. This page explains how it works and what to do for printers from HP, Epson, Canon and Brother.
How wireless printing on Android works
Android includes a print service that looks for printers on your Wi-Fi network using standard protocols (mDNS and IPP, the basis of Mopria). When you tap Print in an app, Android shows the printers it found. PrintHop sends your document to that print system, so any printer Android can reach works with it.
Print from your phone to an HP printer
Connect the HP printer to your Wi-Fi network from its control panel, put the phone on the same network, then print from PrintHop and choose the printer on the Android print screen. If an older HP printer is not listed, install the HP print plugin or Mopria Print Service from Google Play.
Print from your phone to an Epson printer
Join the Epson printer to your Wi-Fi network, then print from PrintHop and select it. Older Epson models may need the Epson print plugin from Google Play.
Print from your phone to a Canon or Brother printer
The steps are the same: same Wi-Fi network, printer on, then choose it on the Android print screen. Install the maker’s print plugin or Mopria Print Service if the printer does not show up.
Wi-Fi Direct
Printers with Wi-Fi Direct create their own network. Connect the phone to it, then print as usual. This works without a router.
What does not work
Printers that only connect with a USB cable or Bluetooth do not appear in Android’s standard print screen. Mobile data alone is not enough because the phone and printer must be on the same local network.
Frequently asked questions
How do I do wireless printing from my Android phone?
Put the phone and printer on the same Wi-Fi network, open PrintHop, choose what to print and tap Print. Choose your printer on the Android print screen.
Do I need the printer maker’s app?
Usually not for recent printers. Older printers may need the maker’s print plugin or Mopria Print Service.
What is Mopria?
Mopria is a standard for driverless wireless printing used by many printer makers. Android’s default print service discovers Mopria-certified printers automatically.
PrintHop is not affiliated with HP, Epson, Canon, Brother or Mopria. Brand names belong to their owners.
