How to print from an Android phone to a Wi-Fi printer

Updated October 30, 2026

You can print from an Android phone without a cable or a computer. Android has printing built in, and most recent Wi-Fi printers work with it. This guide shows the steps and what to check if something does not work.

What you need

Steps

  1. Open PrintHop and choose what to print: a PDF, photos, a web page, text or the clipboard.
  2. Check the preview. Change the paper size, orientation or margins if needed.
  3. Tap Print. Android’s print screen opens.
  4. Open the printer menu at the top and choose your printer. If the list is empty, wait a few seconds for Android to search the network.
  5. Choose the number of copies and other options, then tap the print button.

You can also print from other apps: use Share and pick PrintHop, or use the app’s own Print option.

If the printer is not found

Read the full checklist in Printer not found on Android: what to try. The short version: same Wi-Fi network, printer on, and the Default Print Service turned on in Android print settings.

Printing without a printer

On the Android print screen you can choose Save as PDF instead of a printer, which is useful for sending a document to someone or printing it later.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an app to print from Android?

Android has built-in printing, but many apps do not offer a simple way to use it for every file type. An app such as PrintHop gives you one place to print PDFs, photos, web pages and text with a preview.

Can I print over mobile data?

No. The phone and the printer must be on the same local network, or connected with Wi-Fi Direct. Mobile data is not enough.

Does it work with HP, Canon, Epson and Brother?

Most recent models from these makers support standard wireless printing and appear in the Android print screen. Older models may need the maker’s print plugin from Google Play.
